Q: When running
Vista Ultimate, I go to Windows Defender to find
that it is turned off. I turn it on, use the
program and then when I return a few days later
it is turned off again. Why is this happening?
Is there another program that is turning it off?
A: I have heard of Windows Live One Care having
the effect on Windows Defender (WLOC). If you
have WLOC installed on your system, then you
really don't need to run Windows Defender. I
would recommend disabling the Windows Defender
Service. Here's how:
- Press the Windows
key + R on your keyboard.
- In the Run Command,
type in: services.msc [Enter]
- Scroll the list
alphabetically to find Windows Defender
- Right click Windows
Defender
- Select Properties
- Open the drop down
list next to Startup Type, select Disable.
