Support For Windows Vista

Q: I have recently upgraded to Vista Premium. I have noticed that my CPU usage is at 90% or better most all of the time. It takes a long time just to get anything accomplished using this operating system. Is there anything that I can do to speed things up?

A: Sure. Try disabling the Indexing Service. What frequently happens is the Indexing Service is crawling through all of your systems data indexing it for quick searchable access. If you disable the Indexing, you will not keep the Search feature from searching, you will simply disable the indexing. If you do not have a problem finding files, folders and programs on your system, you will not need this service. Here's how to disable it:

  1. Go to Start
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Select Administrative Tools
  4. Select Services
  5. Find the Indexing Tool, click it and select Disable
  6. Click OK
