There are several reasons why this option is not
listed on your Vista installation:

You have
accidentally deleted this option when you
performed a disk cleanup.

You have
inadvertently disabled Hibernation.

Hybrid
Sleep feature is enabled.

Your
computer doesn't support Hibernation.
Listed below are the method that you can use
to restore the Hibernation feature to your
computer:
<>You have accidentally deleted
this option when you performed a disk cleanup:
- Go to Start
- In the Search box, type in: cmd
- Right click the Command Prompt entry.
- Select Run as administrator from the
resulting menu.
- Type the following command in to the
command prompt and then press Enter on your
keyboard:
powercfg -h on
This will restore your deleted hibernation
files and allow your computer to hibernate
correctly again.
<>You have inadvertently disabled
Hibernation:
- Go to Start
- In the Search box, type in: cmd
- Right click the Command Prompt entry.
- Select Run as administrator from the
resulting menu.
- Type the following command in to the
command prompt and then press Enter on your
keyboard:
powercfg /hibernate on
<>Hybrid Sleep feature is
enabled:
Follow the instruction listed in "You have
inadvertently disabled Hibernation" above.
<>Your computer doesn't support
Hibernation:
- Go to Start
- In the Search box, type in: cmd
- Right click the Command Prompt entry.
- Select Run as administrator from the
resulting menu.
- Type the following command in to the
command prompt and then press Enter on your
keyboard:
powercfg /a
This command will inform you of what 'sleep'
options are available for your systems hardware
configuration.
