Q: I have been using Windows Vista and Windows
XP on one system. I now have purchased a new
computer with Windows Vista preinstalled and
would like to remove Vista from my older system.
My concern is not to mess up my Windows XP
installation on my dual boot system when
removing Vista. Any idea's how I can do this?
A: Well, there are two ways to do this. Either
will work fine:
Method #1:
1. Boot your older PC with the Windows XP CD
inserted.
2. Select the Repair option in setup.
3. Press "R" to select the Recovery Console.
4. At the prompt, execute the following two
commands:
fixboot c: [Enter]
fixmbr c: [Enter]
Method #2:
1. Download a free utility called
VistaBootPro
2. Run the uninstall Vista bootloader.
3. Then, follow the instructions in method #1 to
perform a "fixboot" in the Recovery Console.
