Support For Windows Vista

I have Vista Home version installed and have connected an external USB Hard Drive to my computer. It works fine, but when I reboot my computer, Vista will not recognize it until I unplug it and plug it back in. How can I make Vista automatically recognize this?

Currently, I know of three possible remedies for this:

1) Possible Fix: Try downloading the "Reliability update for the USB stack in Windows Vista"
here.

2) Work-a-round: Try connecting the external USB drive in to an Add-in USB card.

3) Work-a-round: Gain access to your computers BIOS and disable all USB support for legacy drives.
